ITC: Background Note

The history of ITC dates back to 1910 when the company was incorporated as the Imperial Tobacco Company of India Ltd (Imperial) by the UK based tobacco company British American Tobacco plc. During the next six decades, the company concentrated primarily on growing and consolidating its cigarette and leaf tobacco businesses and soon emerged as a leader in the cigarette industry.
